Local 'Pro Wind' Groups

Here are a selection of existing support groups known by Yes2Wind to be in favour of wind energy developments. The list will be added to throughout January 2010.

SCOTLAND

  • Standingfauld Wind Farm (Perth and Kinross; near Crieff): Facebook Support Group
  • Dunbeath Wind Farm (Highlands; near Wick): Facebook Support Group
  • Grampian Pro Wind Group (Highlands): The Grampian Pro Wind Alliance is an association of local individuals and groups who are convinced that renewables are vital for the future and who are therefore in favour of developing properly designed local renewable generating capability. Grampian Pro Wind aims to provide objective information, backed by sound research and references.   • Mike Jackson (M J Energy Services) - As well as being a member/activist of Greenpeace, friends of the earth and green party, Mike is a registered speaker on climate change with climate concern and can give a talk to local group on climate change and issues. He stood for the Green Party in the last elections and is a parish councillor in Nafferton.   • Say Yes to Wind Turbines in Northallerton (North Yorkshire): Facebook Support Group
  • Northallerton Climate Action (North Yorkshire): The group provides the opportunities for those concerned to get together for mutual support in understanding the issues and reducing their own carbon footprints, as well as to influence others through campaigning action by holding its own events, a presence at others’ local events, targeted campaigns and miscellaneous publicity.   • SLACC - South Lakelands Action on Climate Change (Near Kendal, Cumbria) - We campaign on a wide range of climate change topics including supporting local wind farms, as well as running local climate change projects.  We have some 350 supporters in the local area.   • Ventnor Golf Club (Isle of Wight): IOW Eco Island Supporters - Facebook
  • Put a windfarm in my backyard if you like, because I'm not an idiot. (Canterbury, Kent) This is an extremely popular Facebook-based group which has, amongst other things, created the International Wind Energy Awareness Association (IWEAA) to promote the International Wind Energy Awareness Day. The Facebook site aims to unite like-mided people and describes itself as "A group for all those people who get angry at people objecting to a windfarm being within about sixty miles of their house."  Put a windfarm.......
