For some time now there has been heated debate on our forums about whether nuclear power has a role to play in combatting climate change. We at Yes2wind believe nuclear is a red herring. It's massively expensive, slow to deliver (only one new nuclear plant came on line during the 17 years of Margaret Thatcher's premiership, and she was completely pro-nuclear) and, since we have no native uranium deposits in the UK, cannot provide us with long-term energy security in an uncertain world.
Greenpeace has produced this new short film about climate change, energy and nuclear power. If you're confused about whether we need nuclear power to stop climate change, you could do worse than take nine minutes of your time to watch it. It doesn't just explain why nuclear power can't stop climate change - it also points the way to the better, cheaper, more convenient solution that is decentralised energy and renewables.
