Sweden proposes a massive twenty-fold increase in wind

The Swedish energy agency has proposed a massive twenty-fold increase in wind power generation. The agency says Sweden should aim to produce 30 terawatt hours (TWh) of power annually from wind by 2020, compared to 1.4 TWh. .

A hearing will take place on Thursday 20th November, 2 pm at the Corran Halls in Oban about Stacain Wind Farm. Supporters of this application are welcome to attend.

Devon's largest wind farm gets the go-ahead

Energy Minister, Malcolm Wicks, has approved the 66MW Fullabrook Down wind project. The 110 metre-high turbines will be erected between Braunton and Ilfracombe and will be Devon’s largest wind farm. The 22-turbine scheme will generate clean renewable power for the annual needs of 30,000 domestic users.

John Hutton calls on local authorities to pass backlog of wind farm applications

UK Business and Enterprise Secretary, John Hutton, is calling on local councils to pass the backlog of planning applications for new wind farms. Currently, the equivalent of 6 per cent of the UK’s electricity supply is stuck in the planning system awaiting decision.

Lindhurst wind farm gets the 'green light'

20 September 2007

On 18 September, Newark and Sherwood Planning Authority gave consent for the Lindhurst wind farm application, the first wind farm in Nottinghamshire. The five turbine wind farm will be sited south of Mansfield and will generate 10MW of electricity for up to 5100 homes each year.

Westmill: work to start on first 100% community owned wind farm in south east

Westmill wind farm co-operative has placed an order with Siemens for five 1.3MW turbines that will generate 12,000 megawatts of green electricity a year - enough to power a community of 2,500 homes. Work will start on the first wind farm in the South East at Watchfield near Swindon, Oxfordshire next week by Econnect Construction Limited with the turbines due to arrive in January 2008.

Wicks stresses importance of wind power - noise not an issue

Energy Minister, Malcolm Wicks, has today welcomed a study by Salford University in to the level of noise emitted by wind farms, which reports that aerodynamic modulation (AM) was 'not an issue' for UK wind farms. Commenting on the report, the Minister said: 'Where there are legitimate problems we will address them. But it is essential that we produce more wind power if we are to meet our climate change and security of supply aims.'
