Wind
weekend – touch a turbine
17 August
2005
Fancy
a fun-filled family day out at your local wind farm this Bank
Holiday Weekend?
This August Bank Holiday (27/28 August), on the last weekend before
schools go back, families across the UK will be able to visit
a working wind farm and touch a turbine as part of the first ever,
simultaneous nationwide opening of wind farms - and all for FREE.
From Orkney
to Aberystwyth, Cumbria to Great Yarmouth, wind farms across the
UK will be opening their 'gates' to the public in support of Embrace
the Revolution, the national campaign for wind energy.
Windy activities
on offer will include kite flying, windmill painting and the opportunity
to touch a turbine. A visit to a wind farm promises not only fun
for those seeking entertainment during the last weekend of school
holidays but also hands on learning about how renewable energy
is tackling climate change - the greatest threat facing our planet.
Embrace
the Revolution has the support of a number of high profile celebrities
including Sian Lloyd, weather presenter, who says: "Recent dramatic
weather events are a stark reminder that nature can only take
so much. Climate change is a reality and we must act now if we
are to stop the damage we are doing to our fragile planet. Wind
is the best of the new renewable energy sources available right
now. I for one am backing wind energy and I know I'm not alone."

the Revolution and find out what is happening in your area, go

Check back
at regular intervals before the August bank holiday for updates
on more participating wind farms, directions and exciting activities!
Visitors
to the wind farms can take practical steps to reduce their CO2
emissions and help combat climate change by taking advantage of
a national car sharing scheme available over the weekend. Log
on to www.liftshare.com to find a car buddy and for further information.
Embrace
the Revolution is a high profile national campaign, launched by
the British Wind Energy Association, to challenge the myths about
wind energy and give supporters of wind, three quarters of the
UK population, an opportunity to take action. See www.embracewind.com
for more information.
