Bike to the Future! Sunday 17th April

6 April 2005
If you
like a Challenge, then the Green Party in North Devon is challenging
you! If you respond to more gentle persuasion, then they invite
you - to make the link between clean renewable energy and dirty
old energy. Join them on a sponsored cycle-ride from the gates
of the Hinkley Point Power Station near Minehead, to the site
of the proposed Fullabrook Down Wind-farm near Barnstaple, via
the site of the off-shore tidal power generator at Lynmouth for
a picnic at 3pm.
According to Councillor Ricky Knight of the local Green party:
"the plan is to meet at the Leisure Centre car-park in Barnstaple
at 7.30am when your bike will be put into a big van, along with
you and we'll drive to Hinkley with the intention of setting off
on our adventures by 10am. Then we'll take the coast road to Lynmouth
and thence via Blackmore Gate to Fullabrook, near Marwood. The
support vehicle will be right behind us; everyone will have maps
and emergency numbers (plus their own mobiles, I hope) but we'll
all more or less be sticking together anyway.
All proceeds will go to the North Devon Green Party's Election
Campaign. We have been offered sponsorship from two local shops,
which we will probably put into some T-Shirts with the logos -
so, sign up and get a free T-Shirt!"
