Yes2wind Campaigning Highlighted in the Sunday Telegraph
The campaigning role of yes2wind was highlighted in an article published on 12 February 2012 in the Sunday Telegraph about lobbying activity undertaken by the UK wind energy sector. The specific aim of yes2wind is to promote wind energy projects in the UK. Sometimes this is under commission from Pendragon PR - who have allied themselves with, and heavily supported y2w’s objectives – but by no means always!
For the planning process to work well, it is vitally important that the views of the wider community are heard and understood and not just those of what are often a vocal minority of opponents.
Objectors to wind projects object – they make themselves heard – loudly and constantly – that is their right. The problem is that supporters tend to be silent – and they are often the silent majority.
The aim of yes2wind is simple – we encourage supporters to express their support. We work to ensure that the true weight of public opinion – including those in support – is fully understood by those making or influencing a planning decision.
Alex Doyle, director of yes2wind explained: “We have no problem with anti-wind campaigners canvassing to promote their point of view. What is difficult to understand is why objectors feel that doing likewise to seek support is somehow wrong – unless they are concerned about being shown to be in a minority.
“Although the Sunday Telegraph has an editorial policy that is opposed to proliferation of wind energy in the UK, it reported the role undertaken by yes2wind accurately. We are always happy to talk with wind developers to see whether yes2wind can help with their wind energy proposals.”
