Support grows for Spaldington Airfield Wind Farm
Since starting a campaign last month to gain support for a wind farm proposal at a disused wartime airfield in Yorkshire’s East Riding, yes2wind has received well over 100 letters of support for the proposal. The letters will be forwarded to East Riding of Yorkshire Council to demonstrate to planning officers and members of the planning committee that significant support for the project exists.
If granted planning consent, the five-turbine Spalding Airfield scheme which is located on farmland west of the village of Spaldington would be capable of generating non-polluting electricity for more than 7,000 households.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council is expected to decide whether to approve the wind farm application in the next few weeks.
John Everett, spokesperson for yes2wind, said: “We’re pleased that we have picked up these added pledges of support for the Spaldington Airfield proposal as they help demonstrate that there is significant backing for non-polluting, green energy generation schemes in the area.
“East Riding does not have a good record of support for wind farm proposals so it’s really important to show their planning committee that wind energy schemes like Spaldington Airfield have the approval of many people.”
There is still time for others to express their support for the Spaldington Airfield proposal as the next East Riding Planning Committee takes place on 8 April but East Riding’s planning department have warned that the scheme may not be discussed by councillors until May.
