Samsung to Create 500 Jobs in New Wind Project

Samsung hopes to invest up to £100m in its first European offshore project that could create more than 500 jobs at Methil in Fife.

The Korean-based engineering group plans to test its new, more powerful 7MW turbine offshore before starting to take orders to build them at the publicly funded Energy Park at Methil, which aims to attract renewable energy companies.

Welcoming SHI’s investment, Alex Salmond, Scotland’s first minister, said: “Their choice of Scotland as their first base in Europe for renewable technology development is testament to the fact this country is fast becoming the European centre for research and development in new offshore wind technologies
