Panorama Got It Wrong says Tony Juniper from Action for Renewables

Posted 1st December 2011

Action for Renewables have produced a short You Tube video rebutting the recent Panorama claim that government support for renewable energy is one of the major contributors to rising household electricity bills.

Tony Juniper explains that from a combined annual Gas and Electricity bill of around £1300, just £22 is spent directly supporting renewable energy.

Yes2wind agrees with this analysis. The effect of ALL environmental measures on energy bills is actually quite complex, but the fundamental components are well explained by a report compiled several years ago from the Sustainable Development Commission called “Domestic Energy Price Analysis”.

Verification of generating costs can be obtained from the Mott MacDonald report for DECC called: “UK Electricity Generation Costs Update (2010)”

Both of these reports can be found in the Windypedia Reference section of this website. Yes2wind is currently working on an article - available on Windypedia during early December - which will set out the key facts and figures that are central to this debate.

We hope this will support the excellent Action for Renewables video, which is a much needed redress to some of the unbalanced claims.
