Low Spinney Wind Farm to add green power in Leicestershire

Posted 31st March 2010

Planning consent has been granted for a four-turbine wind farm that will generate power for nearly 5,000 households following a public inquiry.

Broadview Energy first proposed the Low Spinney Wind Farm in May 2008 and in September 2009 the company decided to seek a public inquiry as its planning application had not been determined by Harborough District Council, the local planning authority, within the specified timeframe.

Jeffrey Corrigan, managing director of Broadview Energy welcomed the decision of the planning inspector to approve the Low Spinney wind farm on land between the Leicestershire villages of Gilmorton, Ashby Magna and Dunton Bassett, saying: “We are very pleased to have received the inspector’s decision and we will work closely with Harborough District Council and representatives of the local community to carefully manage the wind farm’s construction and operation. We aim to start construction work towards the end of this year and start generating power in to the local grid by the middle of 2011.

"We are very mindful of the objections among some parts of the local community and I hope that people will take some assurance from the inspector’s reasons to approve our project and our own commitments to minimise the impact of the wind farm. In due course, we will also wish to talk with the local community about the creation of the community investment fund that will support local education and environmental initiatives.”
