Expansion to fenland wind farm announced

Posted 18th May 2010

A Cambridgeshire wind farm already capable of generating enough electricity for 9,000 homes annually looks set for a major expansion.

Wind Prospect wants to enlarge the Glassmoor Wind Farm between Pondersbridge and Ramsey Mereside from eight to 14 turbines.

The company, which has been operating Glassmoor for four years, describes the site as adding "an elegant vertical perspective to the level Fens skyline".

Their bid to increase its size is contained in preliminary reports to Fenland District Council which they hope will pave the way for a full application.

Wind Prospect is promising to consult with local residents about their proposals and pledged a dedicated website to seek comments.

If agreed, the company will install six turbines with a maximum blade tip height of 100 metres, and they claim it will generate enough power for a further 6,000 homes. It would also decrease Fenland's CO2 emissions by approximately 12,000 tonnes a year.
