West Coast Energy Ltd has submitted a planning application on behalf of East Fife Wind Energy Ltd for a 7 turbine wind farm at Devon Wood, approximately 3km north of Kennoway, Leven.
The site would have a total installed capacity of up to 17.5MW, which is enough to power the equivalent domestic energy needs of around 10,000 homes. It would displace in the region of 490,000 tonnes of CO2 over its 25 year life.
It is currently in the planning system, and the response to date from statutory consultees has been positive. Significantly Scottish Natural Heritage (the body with national responsibility for landscape and biodiversity) and are a key consultee on wind farm applications have not objected.
In addition to the environmental benefits of the proposal, the developers are offering a significant community benefit package that will go directly to a local Community Trust. Based on 2.5MW turbines, a sum of £52,500 will be paid into the Community trust for each of the 25 years that the wind farm will be operational – this is in excess of £1.3M over the course of the wind farm’s life.
