18
turbines have now been erected off the Yarmouth coast this weekend
as the Scroby Sands offshore windfarm nears completion.
When fully operational the
Scroby Sands site, near Great Yarmouth, will boast 30 turbines,
and will form Britain's largest offshore windfarm.
The project's
manager, Powergen's Andy Hilton, said: “The weather was
perfect and the sea was calm. The installation went ahead without
a hitch. We are right on schedule with the building - and it feels
fantastic to see the first one going in after so much work.”
The
turbines, which are likely to become a tourist attraction with
boat trips out to the sandbank to see them, are 60m high towers
with blades 40m long.
